National Day of the Cowboy, Summer 2024

6/29/2024

We hope you are enjoying your summer so far—maybe you’ve already made it to a rodeo?

This year, we wanted to commemorate the National Day of the Cowboy, coming up on July 27, with some of David’s best-known cowboys. The inspiration for these special cowboys came from photos David took at a rodeo in the early '90s (original photos below). These two riders showed so much swagger and character, they captured David’s attention immediately as he was photographing. You can see in David’s photos how dynamic these men were, not to mention their bold and fun outfits, which David portrayed beautifully.

After David painted these two cowboys, he decided to pursue making serigraph prints of them. Serigraph printing is the same as screen printing, which means each color for the print is applied individually onto the paper from ink pressed through a screen. There is an art to screen printing, requiring great expertise lining up each screen perfectly every time a new color is applied to recreate the original image.

"I'm Ready, Are You Read" Serigraph

"It's Gonna Be A Long Eight Seconds" Serigraph

Once the ink is meticulously printed and dry, David’s signature metallic leafing is then added by hand to finish these fantastic pieces of art. These serigraphs are sought-after because of their workmanship—they are an original art form in and of themselves and considered highly-collectible! Not only that, but because of their time-consuming creation, they are limited editions, and lucky us, we have the only ones available!

For National Day of the Cowboy, we are offering a 15% discount on all cowboy prints, including these serigraphs, for the entire month of July! We’re letting the boys carry the show this summer, so only cowboy images are included in the sale. Our serigraphs are made using heavyweight, archival art paper, and can be shipped rolled in a tube or you can contact Sue Roderick for options and information about matting and framing (at an additional cost). They make a stunning pair on the wall—many of David’s collectors have purchased both as a set.
